Introduction to Papermaking
Join us for a hands-on introduction to the art of paper making in this engaging two-hour workshop. Perfect for beginners, this class offers a unique opportunity to explore the history and craft of paper making in a fun and interactive setting.
We'll start with an overview of the paper-making process, including a brief discussion on the history of paper and the origins of various materials. You'll get to examine handmade paper and fiber samples, gaining an understanding of the diverse textures and possibilities this craft offers.
Following the introduction, we will demonstrate the paper-making process, showing you how to create your own sheets of paper from recycled materials. Provide all the necessary materials, including pulp made from recycled paper, and show you how to incorporate flower petals, leaves, and other thin plant materials to create beautifully textured, one-of-a-kind paper.
After the demonstration, it's your turn! You'll have plenty of time to create your own handmade paper, experimenting with different techniques and decorative elements. If we're in a setting with access to natural materials, you might even take a short walk to gather additional items to add to your creations.
The class is designed to be held outdoors, where we can embrace the messiness of the process—splashing water is all part of the fun! All materials and tools will be provided.
Whether you're looking to explore a new hobby or simply want to learn a unique craft, this class is a perfect way to get started. Come ready to get creative and leave with your own handmade paper!
